10k and fun run a roaring success
We would like to thank all participants of Marwell’s annual 10k run, as usual it proved to be a roaring success! It was a fantastic day and the event attracted thousands of runners and supporters.
The Marwell 10K is an annual fundraising event jointly organised with Eastleigh Running Club. Now in its 12th year, the money raised from the event will go towards Marwell’s ongoing work to conserve endangered species and habitats, both locally and internationally, and to care for and feed the animals in the park.
Returning to his winning ways, James Baker (Chichester Runners) was the runaway champion equalling last year’s course record of 32.25.
After finishing third last year, Kate Towerton (Hampshire Police) triumphed in the women’s race with a time of 40.44
In the Junior Fun Run, Maise Grice was first girl - succeeding sister Evie who won last year and Daniel Brookling was first boy.
A special team award was given to the Arundel Court Junior School Running Club, for being one of the youngest clubs to ever take part.
Owslebury Primary School was also presented with a special award for the number of children taking part but also to say thank you for all the wonderful artwork they provide around the course.
Deborah Tyler, Race Director from Eastleigh Running Club said: “Everybody really enjoyed this year’s event and it was another huge success. We are delighted with the number of entries and the encouragement from supporters and once again our marshals did a fantastic job.”
James Cretney, Marwell’s Chief Executive added: “Congratulations and thank you to everyone who took part in Marwell’s 10k run. As a registered charity we are especially grateful for everyone’s support and it is very much appreciated.”
