This year Marwell Wildlife celebrates its 40th birthday and to help mark the occasion, we are commissioning a giant wildlife mosaic by renowned local mosaic artist Maylee Christie.
The giant finished mosaic will be wall mounted, measuring an amazing 10 square metres and will be unveiled on our birthday - 22nd May 2012. For those who actually want to be part of history, as well as helping contribute to our vital conservation work, why not sponsor our giant mosaic? You or your family could have your names immortalised within the mosaic in the form of hand-crafted glazed tiles in the shape of leaves. These will be incorporated into the mosaic so that in years to come you will be able to revisit us, perhaps with children or grandchildren, and point out your contribution to our unique anniversary artwork.

Mosaic Making
40 animal illustrations were selected from over 200competition entries, to represent our magnificent collection of wildlife. All the designs were created by children, both locally and from as far afield as South America, and can be viewed as a slideshow below.These designs have been faithfully transcribed and tens of thousands of tiny coloured tiles will be laid to make the children's designs a reality. Work has already begun and will be carried out by local schools, our own Oryx Club and even at public workshops!
Mosaic-making, which is an art form many thousands of years old, is most often associated with the ancient Romans, but it is a unique, simple and fun way for all age groups and all abilities to make beautiful artwork. The renowned Hampshire-based Peruvian-born mosaicist Maylee Christie will be supervising the construction.
