About Cotton Top Tamarins
Tamarins are found in tropical forests and live in groups of approximately 15, consisting of breeding pairs and their young. They communicate with each other by scent marking, facial expressions and squeaking. The group form close bonds by grooming each other.
Cotton top tamarins feed during the day on nectar, leaves, insects and other small creatures.
Newborn offspring are carried on the back of the male or older offspring and given back to the female for feeding.
Cotton tops are threatened by habitat destruction. They were also at risk from collection for scientific research, but they are now protected by law.
