About Yellow and Black Poison Arrow Frogs
The poison arrow frogs are caring parents, carrying their tadpoles from pool to pool to prevent them from drying out. In some species, the mother even lays a special egg for the tadpoles to feed on.
Many poison arrow frog species are facing extinction as a disease called Chytridiomycosis, which kills most amphibians that it comes in contact with, is spreading throughout the arrow frog’s habitats.
There are some species of poison arrow frogs which are used by South American tribes for their toxic secretions which are used for poison the tip of their hunting arrows.
