Marwell People

Marwell puts animals first and this calls for many dedicated human beings!

We employ over 150 full and part time staff from keepers to kitchen staff and gatekeepers to gardeners.

Our Keepers

It must be everyone’s dream at some time to be an animal keeper!  It is certainly a very special job but perhaps not as glamorous as many imagine.

It’s tough work, mainly outdoors, in all weathers and with long hours, especially in the summer months.  It carries great responsibility and demands dedication, concentration and expertise.

Our keepers are all highly trained. Animal keepers often have a specialist interest in areas that include animal biology, health and nutrition, reproductive biology, animal behaviour and welfare, breeding programme management, conservation and education.

Our keepers are also ambassadors for our animals and during weekends and holidays you can meet them at various points around the park to have a chat about the animals they care for.  You can learn so much because they are all “hands on”!  Go on one of our Sunset Safaris during June, July and August, and you will have keepers as your guides.
