Our vets have to deal with many species from small primates, to tigers, and snakes to penguins and, of course, they can’t tell the vet what is wrong with them. However, our keepers will already have formed an opinion having observed their animals closely..
When the vet visits, the morning is a busy one! Different keepers request advice or bring their patients for attention. Sometimes operations will be carried out in the animal house itself. After all, it would be quite difficult to get a giraffe into the surgery... Fortunately these tall animals seem to enjoy good health!
Marwell has a modern surgery with a spacious operating theatre, a minor treatment room and a holding room. There is a laboratory and pharmacy. The surgery is also equipped with x-ray and an anaesthetic unit.
