British Wildlife

Bee Orchid

Through our British wildlife programme, we seek to make a significant contribution to the conservation of biodiversity on our doorstep in Hampshire and the surrounding counties of southern England. This region of high human population density presents particular challenges for the conservation of wildlife in light of competing claims for land use. However, the semi-natural ancient woodlands, calcareous grasslands, heathlands and other habitats found in the area are rich in wildlife.

Beginning with responsible stewardship of the land we own at Marwell, we undertake habitat and species restoration projects, biological surveys and monitoring to evaluate the impacts of land management. We work within formally protected areas, but also recognise the importance of enhancing the ecological value of the wider environment for the benefit of wildlife and people alike.
