Rhino manure used on local organic farm
We are helping to produce tasty organic Buffalo mozzarella by sending our rhino manure to local farms. We take our environmental responsibility very seriously and are proud of our innovative approach in weaving sustainable business practices into our everyday operation.
Every year 900 tonnes of animal manure is collected from us 2 to 3 times per week and sent to Laverstoke Park, an organic/biodynamic farm near Andover. The farmers mix the manure with green waste (vegetable, garden waste), from around the county and compost it in long windows. The resultant compost is then spread onto their fields which are grazed by their herd of organic buffalo.
We buy organic buffalo burgers from them, which are on sale in the BBQ hut and we also use the Buffalo Mozzarella in our baguettes.
The local use of the waste means the farmer doesn’t need to use chemical fertilizers on their fields and it helps us to achieve an 88 per cent recycling rate, with zero waste to landfill.
This is just a taste of what we do, supporting local businesses and reducing our carbon foot print by sourcing local food.
