Our meerkats have moved into their new home and are busy exploring their new surroundings. Visitors to the park can now enjoy excellent close-up views of them as they bask in the sun, forage for food and dig tunnels.
With lots of rocks and branches to climb as well as heat pads to keep them warm on colder days our meerkats’ new home is more than twice the size of their previous one allowing them even more space to carry out their intriguing behaviours.
Our education team are keen to offer the best outdoor learning opportunities for students.
Caramantha Wellstead, Head of Education said: “Observation of real animals is one of the first hand experiences that we offer and the new exhibit will be an excellent tool for students visiting the park.
“For example, animal behaviour is a vital element of the KS3 science curriculum and Marwell Wildlife will offer the perfect environment for the study of this by these students.
“Meerkats are not only charismatic and fun to watch but they also have fascinating complex social groups.”
A series of special talks and feeds, including a daily talk at the meerkat home, will begin on July 28.
