Marwell is the perfect place for wildlife artists and photographers. With over 250 species of rare animals, birds, mammals, invertebrates, reptiles and fish – there are many beautiful creatures just asking to be photographed or painted!
The Marwell International Wildlife Art Society and the Marwell Photo Group cater for these two interests and skills.
The Marwell International Wildlife Art Society welcomes all wildlife artists at whatever level, from keen amateurs to seasoned professionals. The Society is run by Pip McGarry, Marwell’s Artist in Residence, who has had a long association with the zoo and has created a thriving and truly international group of artists. Their annual exhibition in Marwell Hall is the biggest exhibition of wildlife art in Europe. If you would like to know more please go to their website: www.miwas.co.uk.
For photographers, again of any level, the Marwell Photo Group is the one to contact. The group has a specialist interest in animals and more importantly the great collection at Marwell. Even with this bias towards animal photography, this does not mean that we ignore everything else - on the contrary the group has a diverse programme running throughout the year with practical work as well. It’s a friendly group with a great atmosphere, so do look at their website and visit them at one of their meetings. The website is: www.marwellphotogroup.org.uk.
