We are celebrating the birth of a beautiful giraffe by inviting you to help name the new baby boy.
The baby giraffe was born on Saturday 6 June 2009 to mum Isabella and dad Kismet. Isabella is being very protective over
her new charge and is proving to be a great first time mum. This is also Kismet’s first youngster born at Marwell Wildlife. At a towering 6ft tall the baby will stay close to his mum for the next few months and will take several years to reach the lofty heights of his dad, who stands at 17ft.
Like all giraffes, Isabella gave birth standing up and was soon encouraging her new baby to get to his feet, as Head Keeper for the giraffes, Ian Goodwin, explains: “Within minutes of her new baby being born, Isabella was nudging him to stand up and it wasn’t long before he was suckling from her. She has continued to be a very attentive mum and is always keeping a watchful eye over him.”
