Jade is our new female giraffe.

She arrived on 8 March after travelling via road from Burgers’ Zoo in the Netherlands and has settled in very well. Jade is nearly two years old, she was born on 16 April 2009.

As a pure bred Rothschild giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi), we hope that Jade will mate with Kismet, our Rothschild breeding male. It is extremely important that there is a safety net of Rothschild giraffes in captivity as it is believed that there are only around 600 individuals left in a few protected areas in Kenya and in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda.

Our youngest giraffe calf is Nsia. She was born in April last year to Matilda, also a pure bred Rothschild giraffe.  We now have nine giraffe, and during the months of April – September you can watch them in the African Valley.
