From empty plot to perfect spot
An insider’s unique opportunity to see and hear how we develop our enclosures. Thursday 20th November 2008.
How are new developments planned? Is the process to build the new restaurant the same as catering for the siamang gibbons? What changes have been made in the design of animal accommodation since we first opened? John Adams, Facilities Manager, will provide some of the answers that have influenced the evolution of Marwell and discuss the challenges that lay ahead for the park.
The talk is free to Annual Pass holders. If you wish to bring a guest we do ask for a small donation. The meeting starts at 7.45 p.m and will last for around an hour, with time for questions. Please enter the park via the main entrance gate and proceed to the Conservation Education car park. The gate (which will be manned) will be open between 7.15 p.m. and 7.35 p.m.
Our programme of talks is designed to reflect conservation projects that we are engaged in, together with related themes and issues. Presentations given by members of our own conservation team and project workers are complemented by guest speakers from partner organisations or projects that have some resonance with Marwell’s conservation aims.
Key subjects include species and habitat conservation, the importance of monitoring and managing biodiversity, and interactions between people and wildlife. On some evenings, talks will be given by a single key speaker, while on other occasions we may give two or three shorter presentations linked by a specific theme.
Entry for the talks, which will be held in the Conservation Education Centre lecture theatre, is free for Annual Pass holders. Annual Pass holders’ guests are welcome, but will be asked for a donation. We anticipate that presentations will last from 40 minutes to an hour, with time for questions.
We are currently in the process of confirming our talks programme for 2009.
