Encounter Village and Australian Bush Walk opens Good Friday - Friday 6 April
Meander along the brand new Bush Walk and discover some of the amazing animals from Down Under. After spotting Bennett’s wallabies behind the many eucalyptus trees, follow the Bush Walk into the aviary containing our second species of wallaby, the Parmas, along with one of Australia’s most beautiful birds – the kookaburra.
Then take a spin round the world and meet the fabulous Golden Lion Tamarins from South America. Experience being ‘in’ with Tamarins, watch them explore their new surroundings and if you’re lucky they may come up to you to say hello.
Following its extensive make-over, Encounter Village also has a brand new Animal Barn. Here you can gain close encounters with some of the world’s most bizarre and wonderful reptiles, as some of the more unusual cold blooded animals take centre stage.

Walking round all these new enclosures is bound to work up an appetite and ‘Bush Tucker Bites’, a new food outlet next to Encounter Village is the ideal place to stop off and re-charge those batteries. It serves lovely hot and cold food including freshly made baguettes, subs, smoothies, paninis, salads and soups.
If after exploring all the new animal experiences children still have plenty of energy, a fantastic new playground is sure to keep them occupied while parents can relax on the nearby picnic benches.
The zoo is continually assessing how it can provide visitors with fantastic animal experiences, whilst at the same time remaining true to its commitment of education and conservation of endangered species. As James Cretney, Marwell Zoological Park Chief Executive, explains: “The introduction of the animal walk through enclosures is an important step for us, as they provide an ideal learning environment for children and adults alike to study animal behaviour. Whilst the re-development of Encounter Village and the Animal Barn mean that visitors will be able to quiz zoo keepers whilst keeping learning fun and interesting for all.”
