With a winning time of 32 minutes it was a no snail pace
Despite the thunderstorms and rain, nearly 1000 runners and 300 children gathered at the Park last Sunday (27th April) for the Marwell 10km Road Race and Fun Run. Luck was on our side and the weather cleared just in time for the race starts.
2005 and 2006 winner and last year’s runner up James Baker from Chichester Runners & AC regained his crown with a winning time of 32 minutes and 32 seconds. In a repeat of last year’s race, Karrie Blake of City & Portsmouth AC improved her time by 81 seconds to 38 minutes and 44 seconds to regain the title. Lesley Locks of Hart Road Runners came second for the second year running with a time of 39 minutes and five seconds.
Team prizes went to Eastleigh RC in the Men’s race and Romsey Road Runners in the Ladies race. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
By taking part in this event participants helped raise vital funds for LEAP 4 LIFE our amphibian conservation campaign - helping us to conserve and protect endangered species of frogs, toads and caecilians. Although the final amount raised is not yet known organisers are hopeful that a similar amount to last year of £6,900 will be raised.
Jointly organised with Eastleigh Running Club, the Marwell 10k Road Race is kindly sponsored by Frutina, Saucony and Up and Running Southampton.
