February half term
This February half term (19 February - 27 February) there is fun for all the family.
Wonders of Wood
Join us in a celebration of the United Nation’s International Year of Forests. Children can meet fascinating invertebrates which live deep in forest habitats, including impressive giant thorny stick insects, giant African land snails (which are the size of a hand!) and Madagascan hissing cockroaches.
There is also the opportunity to meet and learn all about the royal python - the snake which Cleopatra supposedly wore around her wrist - and find out about its habitat, diet and survival skills in our daily meet the keeper session.
Travel in Time with a Tree
Learn about the history of our trees in the park with a FREE ‘Travel in Time with a Tree’ trail, available to download or pick up in the park. Journey around Marwell and learn about the fascinating history to these natural giants. From the small-leaved lime - home to an abundance of mistletoe - to the slow-growing yew tree, which is over 700 years old! Explore Marwell’s oak, horse chestnut, box and cedar (with a girth of 5 and a half metres!) and finish the trail at Marwell’s new Formal Garden.
Cold Blooded Corner
Be the first to explore Cold Blooded Corner - the new home for our eight new reptile species. Discover the venomous reticulate Gila monster or the Madagascan tree boa, both EEP species (European Endangered Species Programme). Explore three new monitor species, and be fascinated by our flat-tail geckos, large geckos that have the ability to change colour!
FREE Craft Activities
Fun for all the family, children will love our FREE creative craft activities where they can decorate a wood cookie to take home and discover the true wonders of wood.
