Teacher Training and PGCE Days
Exciting opportunities at Marwell Zoo for would-be teachers!
Our experienced education team are delighted to share how they engage with pupils and students of all ages on a day trip to the zoo. Choose from a PGCE workshop, providing an insight into pupil engagement and off-site visit planning, or a 2 to 6-week placement working alongside our team to deliver a range of sessions.
PGCE Day
Bring your student groups to learn about what Marwell has to offer for visiting school groups. This session showcases our range of sessions and workshops including a practical session which can be tailored to groups on Primary, Secondary or SEND pathways.
The importance of off-site visit planning and risk assessments is discussed with guidance on the advice and help provided by Marwell to support your school trip. Students then have free time in the afternoon to explore the zoo and plan a visit, either incorporating our free downloadable resources or with a view to developing their own.
Each workshop is £100 and can accommodate up to 90 attendees per session. The session is held in our lecture theatre at the Science and Learning Centre .

Teacher Training/Enrichment Placements
As well as providing a home to hundreds of animals, Marwell Zoo is also committed to conserving biodiversity and other natural resources. Our conservation educational programmes engage over 40,000 children and young people a year, seeking to connect people with nature.
Join us in our 140 acre zoological park to work with visiting school groups in our 15 minute interactive hub sessions for Primary groups or 30 minute workshops for Secondary groups, and learn more about our conservation projects and endangered species breeding programmes.
Our experienced teaching staff are able to provide support and feedback on adapting content across the age ranges and with respect to teaching standards, as required.
