Animal Keeper – Hoofstock (Part Time, Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Keeper to join our Hoofstock team on a
part time, fixed term contract for up to 11 months. The successful candidate will be
required to work 24 hours per week, over 3 days.
Animal Keepers are responsible for carrying out all aspects of animal care, including
husbandry routines, managerial operations and environmental enrichment, and supporting
veterinary intervention as required.
The successful candidate will have a background in the keeping of a variety of Hoofstock
species. You will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use
your initiative, display an interest in and commitment to animal welfare and conservation,
and must possess strong communication skills.

contribute to captive breeding programmes.

Guest Experience Host
Join our vibrant organisation!
We have some exciting opportunities for Guest Experience Hosts to join our Guest Experience Team. We are currently recruiting for the following vacancies:
- 40 hours per week, working over 5 days out of 7
- 32 hours per week, working over 4 days out of 7
Shift patterns will include weekends and Bank Holidays. If you have a preference, please state which position you wish to apply for when sending your application.
The Guest Experience Host will be responsible for supporting the Guest Experience Manager to ensure a ‘first class’ guest experience for all our Guests and to ensure a prompt and efficient service onboard Marwell’s trains. This role will include driving Marwell’s trains.
You will actively engage with guests during their visit, by starting conversations, answering
questions and offering help and advice about all aspects of the zoo. You will add additional support to our guests by providing on site First Aid, car parking during peak times, supporting the Retail & Admissions Team in providing a warm and genuine exit/farewell experience and assisting in emergency situations.
A proven track record in delivering exceptional customer service and previous cash handling
experience are a must for this role as is previous First Aid experience or a willingness to be trained to an enhanced standard. Experience of driving in a professional capacity would also be advantageous.
Due to the safety critical nature of driving our road train applicants must be over 21 years of age, have a full driving licence valid for the UK and a minimum of 2 years driving experience. Successful candidates will also be required to undertake and fulfil the requirements of a medical and driving assessment.

Placements for 2022 will be considered during November 2021.
Applications for 2022 should be submitted no earlier than 1 November 2021. For further information please contact our Registrar. We do not hold applications on file.
Marwell runs an unpaid work experience keeper scheme between March and August each year, for a period of two weeks only.
Placements are limited to students over the age of 17 years and who are already studying an animal related course such as the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA).
For Sparsholt College (Winchester) students – applications should be made to your tutor direct at the beginning of November of the year prior to the period of work experience required.
We do not offer internships
All work experience students must fulfil all of the above criteria and be able to produce a letter from their tutor confirming their appropriate course and be able to attend an interview before being considered for a placement .
Veterinary student applications
COVID-19 update – Outside our planned elective schedule we are currently unable to accommodate any veterinary placements on-site due to on-going restrictions imposed by the current situation. This will be reviewed in January 2022.
We currently have limited availability for veterinary student placements, and can only provide clinical EMS. Priority is given to vet students enrolled with the University of Surrey. However, where possible, the vet team will consider 4th and final year vet students, from other Universities. Earlier years cannot be accommodated at present.
