Expedition Marwell: Turn your pupils into explorers for the day
Expedition Marwell is an immersive, curriculum-linked educational session, lasting 60 minutes, and tailored to suit your group from pre-school to Year 6. Your group is free to explore the wider zoo before and/or after your Expedition.
Pupils join one of the Marwell teachers as Expedition Lead, and take on the role of young explorers, tackling hands-on conservation challenges around the zoo as they learn about the natural world and how to protect it.
Every Expedition pupil will also receive a voucher for a free return visit, giving them the chance to enjoy Marwell Zoo again with their family. Terms apply.

An expedition with a purpose
Curriculum linked, age-adapted, SEND inclusive
Expedition Marwell isn’t simply a guided zoo tour. As pupils set out on their own expedition through the zoo, they’ll observe, investigate, question and discover, using the same skills that conservationists use to understand wildlife and help nature recover.
It’s active, hands-on learning designed to support the curriculum while building curiosity, confidence and a stronger connection with the natural world.
Sessions are adapted for different ages from Pre-School to Year 6 and can support learning across science, geography and the wider curriculum, including animals and habitats, adaptation, ecosystems, conservation and our relationship with the natural world.
What happens on Expedition Marwell?
Max 35 pupils per Expedition
- Meet at your pre-arranged location
You’ll be supplied with details at the time of booking. One of our Marwell teachers will be there to meet you and step into the role of Expedition Leader for your group. - During the Expedition
Lasting around an hour, your group will explore, observe wildlife, and solve conservation puzzles along a short route in the zoo, all adapted to suit the age and needs of your group. - At Expedition end
At the end of the session, all pupils will receive a reward, and you’ll be free to use the remainder of your time exploring the zoo.
+ ADD ON Animal Academy
Extend your group’s experience at the zoo with a 30-minute guided visit to one of our amazing animals. Pupils will get a little closer to the individual personalities, behaviours and stories of our animals, and see themselves reflected back! Please note: there is no handling of animals
