Post 16 Workshops
Interactive and Engaging 30 or 45-Minute Post 16 Workshops at Marwell Zoo
We offer a range of 30 or 45-minute workshops specifically designed for Post 16 students studying biology, psychology, geography, environmental science, art, conservation, animal management, animal care or land based studies.
Each workshop is held in our lecture theatre at the Science and Learning Centre and can accommodate up to 90 pupils per session* (*40 pupils per session for Observational Drawing), making them ideal for large groups and college outings.
30-Minute Workshops
- Classification: This session develops student’s understanding of the current classification systems, including the purpose and difficulties involved in categorising species
Please refer to the Classification overview sheet for more detail. - Observational Drawing: Using your own art materials or camera, find out first hand about colour, texture and pattern by getting up close to our collection of animal skins and bones (HM Customs and Excise confiscates).

45-Minute Workshops
- Animal Behaviour: This session facilitates the opportunity for students to collect their own animal behaviour data through which we explore the practicalities and limitations of behavioural observations for animal welfare and conservation.

- Conservation Case Study: This session uses one of our current conservation projects as a vehicle to explore the real life complexities of protecting and restoring species and their habitats.

Field Studies
Fulfil your statutory off-site Science and/or Geography field study requirements without the expense of a residential!
Our new fieldwork sessions run over 2 to 3 days incorporating an engaging mix of taught research skills and evaluation sessions with practical data collection and analysis. Depending on your fieldwork focus and duration, data can be collected from one or more environments including mixed and ancient woodland, meadow, and tropical rainforest (subject to availability).
