From 14 to 20 October, Marwell Wildlife will be taking part in BIAZA’s Spotted on Site Bioblitz. This week-long event is a great opportunity for guests, staff, and volunteers to engage with nature and help document the incredible biodiversity that exists right here on our grounds.
How you can get involved
If you’re visiting Marwell during Bioblitz week, download the iNaturalist app on the Apple App Store or Google Store and record any native species you come across at the park.
From spiders to snails, beetles to bats, there’s so much to discover and every observation helps contribute to an exciting project cataloguing the diverse wildlife that calls Marwell’s grounds home.
Bioblitz leaderboard
Contributions can be added to the iNaturalist app throughout the year, but be sure to keep your eyes peeled during Bioblitz week there will be an extra layer of excitement with a leaderboard! Zoos and aquariums across the UK will be competing to see who can record the most native species and highlight the biodiversity of their sites.
Marwell Wildlife Ecologist, Carla Broom shared her thoughts on the upcoming event: “We’re excited to be taking part in Bioblitz week this year! It’s a fun way to engage with nature and helps show the incredible native wildlife we have here onsite at Marwell.
“Observations that are recorded through the iNaturalist app help with broader research and conservation efforts not only in the UK but worldwide. We can’t wait to see what our guests discover while at the park.”
