Renovations to our Wallaby Walkthrough exhibit are well underway!
You may have seen the Marwell team working hard to revamp the area, making space for the new layout by clearing the original fencing, moving large rocks and boulders and relocating the wallaby houses.
The new enclosure will have a stream running through it which has now been dug, and excavations on the pond and water feature are ongoing. These features will be great enrichment for our red-necked wallabies as the species is known to be excellent at swimming!
Our landscapes team has also been working with keepers to decide on the best plants, grasses and greenery for the enclosure. All wallabies are herbivores and 90% of what they eat is grass so it’s vital that this is thoroughly planned.
