Marwell Zoo is Proudly Guilty – and we’re owning our one-star reviews

Marwell Zoo, Habitats

What if some of the things you get criticised for are actually the things you’re most proud of?

That’s the thinking behind Proudly Guilty, a new six-part short video series from Marwell Zoo which takes some of the complaints and one-star reviews we receive and gives our team the chance to respond.

From “we didn’t see enough animals” and “the habitats are overgrown” to “there’s a lot of walking” and “there are no rollercoasters or rides”, we’re putting some of our most common criticisms front and centre.

Not because we’re dismissing them.

There’s more to the story

We take all visitor feedback seriously and we’re always looking at where we can do better. But sometimes there’s more behind a complaint than you might think.

As a conservation charity; animal welfare, conservation and supporting nature’s recovery are at the heart of the choices we make at Marwell – from the space and choice we give our animals, to the way we manage their habitats and our 140 acres of parkland.

And we’re not pretending we get everything right. We know there are parts of the zoo that need updating and improving.  Later in the series, we’ll tackle that feedback too, share some of the work already underway and give you a glimpse of some of the exciting developments planned for Marwell.

Because being Proudly Guilty doesn’t mean ignoring criticism. It means being open about the choices we make, explaining why we make them and recognising when there are things we can improve.

The first Proudly Guilty film is out now, with new films released throughout October.
