Travel & Directions

We’re on the fringe of the South Downs National Park and very well connected!

It might be a stretch to say that all roads lead to Marwell but the park is within easy reach of two motorways and rail stations and only 8 miles from Winchester. If you’re looking for things to do in the Bournemouth (40 miles) or Southampton (10 miles) areas it’s the perfect choice. We’re also just a stone’s throw from the New Forest (16 miles) and Portsmouth (19 miles).

By Bus

Travel by bus and we’d be delighted to reward you with a 10% discount on park entry when you show your ticket at admissions.

Stagecoach 69 & Xelabus X9

  • Monday to Saturday to Fishers Pond but not for the faint hearted!*
    • The Stagecoach 69 service runs between Winchester and Fareham. A request stop is available at Fishers Pond.
    • The Xelabus X9 service runs between Curdridge Church near Botley and Eastleigh Bus Station. A request stop is available at Fishers Pond.
  • * WARNING We’re quite a trek from the bus stop - 20 minutes at a push. The road is unpaved with a 50 mile an hour limit and busy with traffic so we wouldn’t recommend this route.

Please check with the bus operators before you leave since they’ll have the most up to date information on the services they provide.

By Car

Marwell's postcode is SO21 1JH. We are situated just off the B2177 between Colden Common and Bishops Waltham. Just follow the large brown tourist signs. If you’re planning a motorway route, then head off the M3 at J11 or the M27 at J10 (westbound) or J5 (eastbound).
  • There’s plenty of FREE parking, however, make sure you take all your valuables with you since we don’t accept any responsibility or liability for theft or damage. Cars must be parked sensibly and Marwell Wildlife does not accept any liability for damage or loss to vehicles.
  • Please car share if possible! On busy days our car park can fill up, so to avoid delays please car share if you can.
  • Clearly we love animals so request that you leave all dogs and other pets at home and don’t leave them to suffer in your car. When we find pets in cars we contact the police.
  • Scenterbarks is a local dog daycare centre in Otterbourne (10 mins away) from 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday.
  • Please consider leaving your car at home and travelling by bus - you'll be rewarded with 10% off zoo admission!

P.S. If you're looking for Marwell Activity Centre, they're just down the road from us. From Fishers Pond - keep going and they are at the next turning on the left.

Marwell zoo is pretty big (140 acres of beautiful Hampshire parkland to explore) and whilst we’d recommend that you allow at least 4-5 hours for your visit, you might like to slow the pace down even further and make a weekend of it. If that’s the case then the safari themed Marwell Hotel is located right on our doorstep. Alternatively:
