Marwell 10k 2025 - five Grevy's zebra run across the plain

To mark International Zebra Day, we’re thrilled to announce our 2025 fundraising appeal, Save Our Stripes (SOS), dedicated to the conservation of the endangered Grevy’s zebra in Kenya. As part of this initiative, we are re-launching the Marwell 10K Run, Hampshire’s newest road race, to rally public support and raise vital funds for the species’ survival.

The Marwell 10K Run takes place on Sunday 28 September 2025, offering runners a truly unique experience. The race begins with a scenic loop through Marwell Zoo, providing participants with an up-close view of its incredible wildlife, before heading out onto the surrounding countryside roads and finishing back within the zoo grounds. The event is delivered in partnership with Running Mania and Hedge End Running Club. Registrations are now open – find out more and sign up today here.

Fewer than 3,000 Grevy’s zebras remain in the wild, with habitat loss, drought, competition with livestock, and infrastructure development driving their numbers down. Since the 1970s, their population has declined by over 75 per cent, with Kenya now their last stronghold. Marwell’s Grevy’s Zebra Conservation Programme works directly in Kenya to restore habitats, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and empower local communities to protect these iconic animals.

“We’re calling on runners and wildlife lovers alike to join us in our Race to Protect Wildlife,” said Professor Phillip Riordan, Director of Conservation at Marwell Wildlife. “The Grevy’s zebra is an irreplaceable part of our planet’s biodiversity, and their survival depends on collective action. By taking part in the Marwell 10K Run, you’ll be helping to secure a future for this incredible species.”
