We’re delighted to share that our first ever coppery titi monkey has been born here at Marwell.
The new arrival was born in the early hours of Saturday 18 January, to first time parents Taco and Mr Titi. Keepers say the baby is thriving and currently being carried by its father between feed times. Coppery titi monkeys are monogamous, with males taking on primary caregiving responsibilities shortly after birth until around six months old.
Coppery titi monkeys are arboreal, which means they spend nearly all their time high up in the trees, only rarely coming to the ground. They are active during the day foraging for fruit and grooming one another, which cements social bonds within their family group.
These fascinating primates show their love by “tail twining”, where they wrap their long tails together while resting or sleeping.
You can visit our coppery titi monkeys in our Life Among the Trees building. The adorable new arrival is still getting used to its new surrounds and all these animals in this habitat are sensitive to noise, so we kindly ask visitors to keep the noise down while passing through to give the best opportunity to see them.
Our animals have the freedom to choose where they spend their time within their habitat, so if you don’t spot them on the first attempt, we recommend making time to pop back later in the day for another chance to see them.
