Marwell Zoo is the purr-fect day out this May half term! From meeting our vet team to creative craft activities there’s something for every animal lover to enjoy.

Every Day Events

Throughout the whole of Love Your Zoo week we’re offering a wide range of exciting additional activities every day. Download our ‘Marwell Zoo’ app for all daily talks and animal feeds. Help us fill our Wishing Tree with positive messages in Coffee Corner! Over 3’s can create a wooden zoo craft* in Marwell Hall. Meet Marwell’s animal mascots on Marwell Hall Drive at intervals throughout the day.

Spotlight events

Monday 27 May

10am until 4pm Soapbox Science Session: Remote monitoring of the health of scimitar-horned oryx – One of our current MRes students shows how they monitor scimitar-horned oryx and why it’s important to do so.

11am until 3pm Science and Learning Centre – We’re opening our Science and Learning Centre to give guests a chance to explore animal skulls and illegal wildlife products that have been confiscated at customs.

2pm Meet our Veterinary Team – Pop along to the anoa habitat to hear from a vet or veterinary nurse here at Marwell. Ask them your questions and find all about their careers in veterinary care.

Vote for Scimitar-horned Oryx Day – In celebration for Love Your Zoo week, BIAZA (British and Irish Association for Zoos and Aquariums) are creating a new animal day! We’ve nominated scimitar-horned oryx for a new animal day. We’ve worked with these impressive animals for more than 50 years, contributing to them being downgraded from Extinct in the Wild to Endangered.

You can vote for Scimitar-horned Oryx Day on BIAZA’s social media channels on Monday 27 May!

Tuesday 28 May

4pm Tiger Training – Our Carnivore keepers will be joined by one of our zoo vet’s as they train our tiger pair, Bagai and Valentina. Please note, the teams will be completing actual training and we give our animals the choice to take part. The team will be around to talk about the training and answer your questions once they have finished.

11am Meet our Veterinary Team – Pop along to the anoa habitat to hear from a vet or veterinary nurse here at Marwell. Ask them your questions and find all about their careers in veterinary care.

Face painting – There will be animal themed face painting* on Marwell Hall Drive so kids 3+ can transform into their most loved animals.

Wednesday 29 May

10am Meet our Veterinary Team – Pop along to the anoa habitat to hear from a vet or veterinary nurse here at Marwell. Ask them your questions and find all about their careers in veterinary care.

12pm Giraffe Training – Watch our Hoof stock Team and vets training Makeda the giraffe for x-rays. Please note, the teams will be completing actual training and we give our animals the choice to take part. The team will be around to talk about the training and answer your questions once they have finished.

3:30pm Clouded Leopard Feed and Talk – Download our ‘Marwell Zoo’ app for all daily talks and animal feeds.

Face Painting – There will be animal themed face painting* on Marwell Hall Drive so kids 3+ can transform into their most loved animals.

Thursday 30 May

10am until 12pm Soapbox Science Session, All About Pests: One of our current MRes students shows how common British ‘pest’ species are interesting, beautiful and benefit our environment.

3:30pm Meet our Veterinary Team – Pop along to the anoa habitat to hear from a vet or veterinary nurse here at Marwell. Ask them your questions and find all about their careers in veterinary care.

Friday 31 May

12pm Snow leopard feed and talk – Download our ‘Marwell Zoo’ app for all daily talks and animal feeds.
