Guest Services Assistants 

Public Engagement Assistant - Fixed Term Contract until 30.09.2019

Marwell Wildlife delivers a broad portfolio of public engagement activities and nature education programmes for half a million visitors to our zoological park. To help us with our busy schedule in the coming months, we have created a fixed term public engagement assistant role. This role will provide a wide range of experiences and is ideal for aspiring, early career conservation educators. 

Our ideal candidate will bring a passion for nature with a background in biological or environmental science, and contribute to a busy, dynamic and nurturing atmosphere. Flexibility and aptitude for engaging people of all ages and backgrounds are essential for this role.

Assistant Animal Keeper

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Animal Keeper to join our Animal Team, working 40 hours per week over 5 days. Assistant Animal Keepers are responsible for ensuring high standards of animal welfare, health and animal husbandry at all times and keeping daily checks and records. 

The successful candidate will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use their initiative and possess strong communication skills, as interacting with members of the public is an essential part of the role. 

Applicants must hold 5 GCSE’s or equivalent and have a demonstrable interest & enthusiasm for animal conservation, management & welfare. In return we will offer you support, training and continued professional development, not to mention a fantastic working environment!

Trustee Vacancy – Finance Representative

As a registered charity, our governance and overall leadership rests with our Board of Trustees who work alongside our Chief Executive and Executive Team.  Actively contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation, our Trustees provide robust oversight, assist in ensuring effective governance arrangements are in place, and help us to rigorously monitor Marwell’s performance.

We are looking to complement our existing Board of Trustees with a suitably experienced and highly qualified accountancy professional (FCA, ICMA or similar). Knowledge and proficiency in corporate finance and the charitable sector would be especially welcome, together with extensive expertise and wisdom in accountancy, audit and tax. It’s a particularly exciting time, as we have a 10-year self-funding programme of capital investment ahead.

We need you to be able to devote time for four Board meetings a year, and four Business Development Committee meetings (covering the remit of Audit, Risk, Commercial and Cap Ex), which are held during the day. Whilst this is a voluntary unremunerated position, reasonable expenses will be paid.

Animal Team Leader - Carnivores 

A full time opportunity has arisen to join our Animal Management Team as an Animal Team Leader of our Carnivores section.

We have exciting plans for our collection and exhibits, offering great opportunities for creative project and team work. This role is responsible for coordinating & supervising daily operations of the team, ensuring that all aspects of animal care are carried out to a high standard. This will include husbandry routines, animal nutrition, training, enrichment and assisting with veterinary intervention as required.

The successful candidate will have extensive, specialist taxonomic knowledge and wide-ranging experience of the management of Carnivore species with a minimum Level 3 (ANC / DMZAA) or equivalent qualification in animal management or biological sciences.

Housekeepers 

We have some great opportunities to join the Marwell family as Housekeepers in our Guest Services Team. Our Housekeepers are responsible for cleaning and maintaining guest areas within the park to a high standard.

Seasonal roles

Environmental Services Assistants

Retail & Admissions Assistants 

Are you friendly & enthusiastic? Could you WOW our guests with your fabulous guest service? 

We have some exciting new seasonal roles in our Retail & Admissions team. These roles will involve assisting in all aspects of our retail provision including welcoming guests at admissions, providing exceptional customer service in our retail outlets and helping to operate our new photo booth during our Brickosaurs event. 

You will need to be able to work during school holidays, weekends & bank holidays as well as week days. These positions will involve working varied hours and shift patterns each week. The hourly rate for these roles is £8.21, flexible hours are available.

Work Experience

If you are interested in keeper work experience please read the following carefully before contacting us.

All work experience positions within the animal department for 2019 are now filled. Placements for 2020 will be considered in November 2019.

Applications for 2020 should be submitted no earlier than 1 November 2019.   For further information please contact our Registrar

Marwell runs an unpaid work experience keeper scheme from the beginning of March to August each year for a period of two weeks only.

Placements are limited to students over the age of 17 years and who are already studying an animal related course such as the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA).

For Sparsholt College (Winchester) students - applications should be made to your tutor direct at the beginning of November of the year prior to the period of work experience required.

To be considered for a position please complete the application form , attach a copy of your CV and send to our Registrar.

All work experience students must fulfil all of the above criteria and be able to produce a letter from their tutor confirming their appropriate course and be able to attend an interview before being considered for a placement .

Veterinary student applications

We currently have limited availability for veterinary student placements, and can only provide clinical EMS. Priority is given to vet students enrolled with the University of Surrey. However, where possible, the vet team will consider 4th and final year vet students, from other Universities. Earlier years cannot be accommodated at present. Internships

We do not offer internships at this time.
