Behind the scenes experiences with animals are just some of the items up for grabs at Marwell Wildlife’s silent auction in aid of the world’s most endangered zebra.
As part of its ‘Save Our Stripes’ campaign people can make their bids online for items such as coming face-to-face with Marwell’s herd of white rhinos who keepers say love a tickle. A chance to spend some time with the red panda, and help prepare lunch for the lemur! All this plus various original artwork – even a signed a signed Oasis album are all available for bidding.
The auction is available now and closes this Friday 27 June at 10pm during Marwell’s black tie fundraising Gala Dinner and bids can be placed here.
The money raised will go towards Marwell’s ongoing conservation programme for the Grevy’s zebra in Kenya where there are fewer than 3,000 remaining in the wild.
Marwell Wildlife CEO Laura Read said: “We must act now to save the Grévy’s zebra for the future. The species was once widespread across east Africa but numbers have declined by over 75% since the 1970s.
“The remaining population live in remote and fragmented areas where there are ongoing risks of drought, caused by our changing climate. Our approach is to work with the local communities in these areas, using their distinct and valuable knowledge of the landscape, to help protect the Grevy’s zebra and highlight its importance as a symbol of this beautiful part of the world.
“We are privileged to have some of the world’s leading zebra conservationists at Marwell, and our work is helping to inform government decisions on infrastructure projects, conservation strategies and also to further empower local communities to take action to protect their valuable wildlife.”
